Literature Text

Let us cross over the river, and rest under the shade of the trees.
Let us take joy in the fruits we have grown,
and sleep underneath the sun’s light.
Through filtered shade and mossy green,
let the old men rest till twilight gloom.
When the firefly’s began to burn and
they dance in flight.
We shall still lay down in the peaceful night,
allow our hearts to rest.
For my soul weeps still for those who lay awake at night, still dead.
Let no more thoughts ponder or alarm, allow
no broken hearts in this land.
For we all lay down now peacefully at rest.
Our time has been spent, our duties done.
The harvest has been reaped, and our deeds gone.
With the last words of Stonewall Jackson; "Let us cross the river, and rest under the shade of the trees."
Inspired me to write this about old restful men. Tired old souls can be, rest is simply what we seek. To find contentment in the most peaceful of places. I cannot imagine such a place until after death.

A nice poem, with a cool and calm tone. I enjoyed it.
